This website is a promotional tool for Lateral Evolution. It is also designed to shatter some of the myths and untruths surrounding the whole  business about website optimising and marketing. However as you will learn when you browse through the website. nobody - including the search engines themselves - completely understands the optimising process or the effects changes to their software will have on the search engine operation.

The Internet is full of companies offering to optimise your website, claiming grand success and generally spouting a considerable amount of nonsense. If you look a bit deeper you will also find that there are a large number of sites where previously successful S.E.O. (Search Engine Optimisation) experts are bemoaning the drop in position of their previously well positioned sites! Most of the talk centres around Google, their latest algorithm and what 'dirty tricks' they are planning for the future.

Whatever the truth of Googles plans for the future we can expect that the way sites are currently optimised will change dramatically over time.  I suspect, and this is probably conspiracy driven ( I love a good conspiracy theory! ), that eventually optimisation as a natural search tool will disappear and whatever takes its place will cost money!

While Google, like Hoover in its own way, has become the search tool of choice for many people ( People now 'google' a subject much as they used to 'hoover' a room. ) the other search engines should not be ignored. Yahoo overall has a 28% worldwide share of the market ( This figure is probably unreliable ) but it is fair to say that being number 1 for your preferred search term on Yahoo is better than being number 20 on Google.

It will educate you into how to choose a designer / optimiser and also what tricks are used to lull you into accepting their proposals.
